このたび、第18回日本分子イメージング学会総会・学術集会の大会長を拝命し、2024年5月23日（木）、24日（金）の2日間にわたって開催することとなりました。COVID-19は今なお変異しながら流行を繰り返していますが、少なくとも「行動を自粛せざるを得ない状況」は終わりつつあり、時代はポストコロナに移行しています。今回の大会が、対面を中心に実施できますことを、心から嬉しく思います。
東京・お台場で開催される学術集会のテーマは「分子イメージング ＋ plus」としました。
私は、今後の分子イメージングの発展のキーワードは、「拡張」だと考えます。これは単一モダリティが、過去に辿ってきた直線的な成長に加えて、他の技術分野の要素を取り込んで自らを「拡張」し、想定されていない学術領域に越境して、守備範囲を「拡張」することを指します。単一分野の成長は止まる日があっても、成長分野に拡張することで、その成長は持続的なものとなります。分子イメージングの持つ柔軟性は、それが実現できる潜在性を有していることを私は疑いません。
今回、「分子イメージングの異分野への拡張・応用」、そして「異分野の要素技術やニーズによる分子イメージングの発展」という、双方向性の「プラス」を目指した講演・シンポジウムを組みました。次回の学術集会の特徴を簡単にご紹介させていただきます。

充実の海外招待講演
1. コロナ禍や航空運賃の高騰により海外渡航が停滞していました。そこで国際水準での「最先端」を確認し、更なる発展を模索するために、特別講演に海外から３名の気鋭の研究者を迎えます。

全員が審査員
2. サンドイッチを片手に熱い議論を交わす恒例の「ランチョン・ポスター」は、時間を80分に拡大。相互採点によって全員が審査員となり、積極的な議論を楽しんで頂けるよう準備しています。

新しい学会賞
3. 新たに「日本分子イメージング学会賞」という論文賞の設立が決定しました。これまでのポスターでの優秀発表賞に加えて、優れた論文を紹介頂くための受賞講演と受賞式を行います。
実行委員会では「現在、最もホットな研究者は誰か」を議論し、今年開催された複数の国際学会での現地調査を元に３名を選出しました。光イメージング分野は、米国NIH/NCIより独創的なプローブを開発するMartin J. Schnermann上席研究員、MRI分野ではテキサス大学MD AndersonがんセンターにてCESTなどの分子MRI、さらにPET/MRIを牽引するMark D. Pagel教授、そして核医学イメージング分野では臨床医でもあり腫瘍分野で活発な研究を展開するDelphine L. Chen教授の講演が決まりました。
さらに、分子イメージングに「プラス」を考えるための３つのシンポジウム（基礎・臨床・先端技術）を開催し、各講演では「座長解説」を導入、専門分野外からの参加を容易にします。また、特別若手セッションとして、海外留学中の若手研究者・医師にスポットを当て、現地とオンラインで結んでホットな情報をご提供します。加えて、アジアにおける分子イメージング学会の連合として、FASMI（Federation of Asian Societies for Molecular Imaging）が活動していますが、その共催セッションも予定しており、アジアの活発な研究状況をご紹介頂きます。

東京オリンピックで熱い競技が開催された東京お台場にて、皆様とお会いできることを実行委員・スタッフ一同、心からお待ち申し上げます。

We are pleased to announce that the 18th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Molecular Imaging, FASMI-JSMI2024 will be held in Odaiba, Tokyo. At this meeting, researchers and developers specializing in a variety of in vivo imaging technologies, including optical imaging, MRI, nuclear medicine, and ultrasound imaging will convene to discuss various topics.
The theme of the meeting is “Molecular Imaging + plus.” The “plus” in this context signifies an interactive addition, encompassing the expansion of molecular imaging to other fields and further development of molecular imaging through the technologies and requirements of these fields.
For this theme, we will invite four international speakers and organize top-tier symposiums. This will provide an opportunity to learn about the current state-of-the-art in molecular imaging and discuss future expansions in the field.
In this meeting, researchers and developers in engineering, chemistry, biology, pharmacology, neuroscience, oncology, diagnostics, and therapeutics oriented toward advanced in vivo imaging, will gather for discussion.
(1) Four leading researchers from abroad will deliver keynote and special lectures. The organizing committee deliberated on who are today’s most innovative and active researchers and, after reviewing various international conferences, selected the top three researchers. In the field of optical imaging, Dr. Martin J. Schnermann, a senior investigator at NIH/NCI, USA, is a pioneer in the development of innovative probes. In magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Professor Mark D. Pagel of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is a leader in molecular MRI, including CEST and PET/MRI. In nuclear imaging, Professor Delphine L. Chen, a physician, will give a lecture on cutting-edge research in oncology. More recently, Dr. Hisataka Kobayashi (NIH/NCI) joined these outstanding speakers as a "Friendship Lecture".
(2) The “Luncheon Poster Session” will take place, featuring a unique format where attendees can enjoy a sandwich while engaging in spirited discussions. This traditional style of discussion has been a staple since the first JSMI. During this session, all participants have the opportunity to act as reviewers through a peer review process and can contribute to selecting the winner of the Best Presentation Award.
(3) In addition to the Best Presentation Award, a new “Japanese Society for Molecular Imaging Award” will be established in 2024.
The meeting will feature three symposiums: Clinical and Therapeutics, Fundamentals Focusing on Chemical Biology, and Advanced Technology. These symposiums are designed to explore the “pluses” in molecular imaging. Additionally, we will connect online with young physicians and researchers active in the USA to facilitate information sharing. This year’s meeting promises to be more content-rich than ever, including a joint session with the Federation of Asian Societies of Molecular Imaging (FASMI).
We are looking forward to seeing you in Odaiba, Tokyo, a location known for hosting numerous thrilling events during the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games.

生体イメージングの最先端研究が集まる
日本分子イメージング学会は、生体内における分子および細胞レベルにおける生物学的事象を解明するための研究を推進し、研究者相互の知識の交換・関連団体との連携を通じて、それらの成果としての技術開発ならびに臨床応用によって、学術の発展に寄与するとともに広く社会に貢献する事を目的とする学術団体です。
分子イメージングとは
近年、世界的に「分子イメージング」の研究と実用化が進み、「Molecular Imaging」は国際用語になっています。分子イメージングとは、生体内での分子プロセスの可視化に関する基礎的・臨床的研究、および開発された可視化手法を利用する応用研究を示し、新しいイメージング技術によって生命体を明らかにしていこうとするものです。これらには、臨床画像診断学や基礎生命科学におけるイメージング研究はもとより、複数の可視化法の融合研究および異なった技術分野の統合による新情報の取得といった研究も含まれると考えられ、多くの分野の研究者の参入と密接な情報交換、および共同研究が不可欠です。
The Japanese Society for Molecular Imaging
It was jointly established in 2006 by researchers from diverse fields such as medicine, pharmacy, science and engineering. It is a society of the most advanced researchers related to biomedical in vivo imaging.
